Services: Project Engineering & Assurance
Nationwide Rail provided Project Engineering support to Network Rail for the delivery of Leeds Southern Entrance Project. The £20M complex bespoke structure facilitates a new escalator, lifts and staircase access into the station from the south side of the station and is built onto the existing station and over the River Aire.
The unique structure, the only one of its kind to be built on the railway, has required many novel engineering problems to be overcome with the assistance of Nationwide Rail, in particular gaining Asset Management acceptance within Network Rail due to the novel use of building materials not used elsewhere on the network.
One of our key deliverables was the development of an Access & Maintenance strategy which would allow future inspection and maintenance to the cladding system, through a combination of MEWP, scaffolding and roped access, following the HSE Hierarchy of Risk Reduction.
